New Opportunities!</title><content type='html'>2011 is now over a week in and its back to a full school/work week. How's it going so far? Feeling a little bit overwhelmed and/or longing for the holidays again? Or maybe you're like me and enjoy getting back into routine? Whatever place today finds you, I hope that you can be encouraged to seek Christ's perfect peace and rest.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Often we become so focused on ourselves that we neglect the one who knows us and our heart's desire intimately. Oh I know you and I don't plan on it being so, but too often we get busy with our "To Do List" that we leave little room for God in our thoughts and daily routine. Please be assured this is not an attempt to make you feel guilty about your relationship with Jesus. We do that guilt thing quite "well" ourselves. Rather, this is an attempt to say that today is a new day, in a new year, with new opportunities. The old is gone and the new has come. Today you can choose who or what you will follow. Today, this moment, is all you and I have. The question is what are we going to make of it? Are you and I going to wallow in self pity, fear, or denial? Or are we going to stand up and as Paul says: &lt;b style="color: red;"&gt;&lt;i&gt;"Only let us live up to what we have already attained." &lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span style="color: red;"&gt;~ Philippians 3:16 &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What have we attained? If we are Christ followers we have attained: &lt;i&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;span style="color: red;"&gt;redemption, forgiveness of sins, new life, the mind of Christ, hope, salvation, freedom, peace, joy, the Holy Spirit, love, a faithful Heavenly Father, communion with Christ, fellowship with believers, spiritual gifts, eternal life, God being for us, security, and purpose.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt; I could go on, as these are only some of the truths we find in the Bible about our inheritance because of the faithfulness of God and his son Jesus Christ&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The challenge for today and each new day in 2011 and beyond is, how are we going to choose to live? Because we do have a choice in what we focus our minds on. Are we going to choose to look at our abilities, our circumstances, and our needs? Or are we going to look to Christ and determine to align ourselves with his ways, his purpose, and his perspective?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;i style="color: red;"&gt;Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble,  whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is  admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such  things. We have had an amazing 2 weeks and words truly can't describe all that we have done, seen and experienced. We will have many stories to tell to our family, friends, and church in the days and weeks ahead. Some of them will be humourous, informative and powerful; others heart breaking and humbling. We have seen the face of God in the dusty roads of Ensenada and the open air churches we had the privilege to visiting and ministering in. We have seen the face of God in the people we spoke with and worked alongside in LA's "skid row", Hollywood Blvd, First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood and numerous places in between. We have seen God at work both in our individual lives and that of our fellow team members.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thank you for all of your love, support and prayers over the course of the past year as we prepared, and these past two weeks as we ministered. Tomorrow we arrive home as richer people for having experienced this journey! The challenge now before us is to use what we have learned and experienced to better our communities and the people we know and love. To see the face of God in the disadvantaged, homeless, poor, abused, rejected and ridiculed; not simply ignore them or pretend they don't exist. To see the face of God in our family and friends, granting them the love and grace they too deserve. To see the face of God within ourselves realising that God not only loves and forgives us, but asks us to reveal this to a world in need of His redemption and reconciliation through Christ.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please pray for travelling mercies tomorrow as we depart at approximately 9:30 a.m. Winnipeg time. We will back track a bit to Tuesday. The youth were very excited because they thought we were going out for dinner, which in a way we were. The challenge was to have our group well fed with one dollar each. We were put into groups and could put all our money together, we could also find other ways to earn more money as well. Our group didn't come up with any great ideas to get more money, except when Bethany asked someone for a dollar. We also ran into a newly wed Christian couple who were doing a web documentary funded by &lt;a href="http://www.chick-fil-a.com/"&gt;Chick-fill-A&lt;/a&gt;. It was about love and what it meant to different people. Kevin was interviewed and said Jesus was love! After the interview we talked with them about what we were doing, and they thought it was really cool. Our other group ended up singing some songs to get extra money which raised a total of $37. Our &lt;a href="http://www.doornetwork.org/index.cfm?load=page&amp;amp;page=177"&gt;DOOR&lt;/a&gt; leader Matthew said that was the most anyone had ever received. We were very proud of them! &lt;i&gt;&lt;b&gt;If you click on DOOR above you'll see a write up about the groups here this week and a photo of our group! &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Wednesday we had a good day helping with some small projects at &lt;a href="http://www.epath.org/hollywood/index.php"&gt;PATH&lt;/a&gt; Hollywood and at the DOOR house. The other group was at &lt;a href="http://www.lafoodbank.org/"&gt;L.A. Food Bank&lt;/a&gt; where they worked hard. After our day of work it was a free evening to go out and have some fun, and boy did we ever! We went to &lt;a href="http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/"&gt;The Cheesecake Factory&lt;/a&gt; in Beverly Hills for dinner where we had amazing food and great service from our new friend Gabe. After our wonderful meal we decided to take a walk around the &lt;a href="http://www.santamonicapier.org/"&gt;Santa Monica Pier&lt;/a&gt;. Some people went on rides, got some ice cream and hit by a HUGE (Beth says) wave. It was such a cool experience to be surrounded by all the lights and excitement of the pier. On our way back to the church we got slightly lost, when I say slightly I really mean for about 2 hours. It was actually so much fun driving around, jammin to some tunes, and having a good laugh when Taylor got caught on a green light during Chinese fire drill!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Today was by far our favourite day as we went to &lt;a href="http://www.urm.org/"&gt;Union Rescue Mission&lt;/a&gt; - "The Way Home", where we met some amazing people. Jennifer- the lady of the kitchen, was definitely the mother of all the men there. She loved us and we loved her as soon as we started talking. She was so honest with us and truly loved God. Sam is another of our new friends and he was such a gentleman, caring, and so glad we were there. We were lucky to be able to get a quick tour at the end from a man named Andy. He used to be a client of&amp;nbsp; the mission after being in and out of jail and into drugs and gangs. He truly showed us how God works to change peoples lives. It was neat to see him on staff as the Volunteer Coordinator.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On our way home from here was had a good laugh when Kevin asked Kent if he could legally marry people. Kent responded by saying "I can marry anyone I want." Bethany then piped in by saying "But Kent, aren't you married to Christine?!?!" And yes she was totally serious! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We have had such a great week serving in Hollywood but look forward to a day at the beach tomorrow then home on Saturday! Today our group went to the &lt;a href="http://www.lafoodbank.org/"&gt;L.A. Food Bank&lt;/a&gt; where we put together food kits to give to people around L.A. We worked very hard today and ended up putting together about 1900 food kits! We also had a bit of entertainment from Kent, unfortunately not everyone liked it. Our other group went back to &lt;a href="http://www.angelfood%20.org/"&gt;Project Angel Food&lt;/a&gt; and then helped with a garden project in the afternoon.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last night we were privileged to meet an amazing man. His name is Albert but we called him Alby. He is a homeless man in the Hollywood area who came to chat with us about being homeless. He told us that there is a saying among people in Los Angeles: "Your one pay cheque away from being homeless." To think about that and about how true it is for people here really hit me. We talked with Alby about not only him but about other homeless people and how we should act or treat them. He basically told us that they are so used to being ignored and shut out that just saying hi can make their day. We were also told that you can not go to the aluminum recycling if you don't have a car. Which completely shuts out the homeless community with their shopping carts. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Having this chat with Alby made me very excited for our work tomorrow with a group called PATH Hollywood where we get to go and talk with some homeless people. One of the funniest moments of this week so far that everyone was too scared to post about was when Kevin HAD to shave. Thursday we went to La Bufador Kevin told a few of us that he had to shave that morning. We had to laugh considering the fact that none of us saw any hair on his face. So we challenged him to not shave for the next he agreed to is. But yesterday we were on breakfast duty and all of a sudden Kevin was gone. After about 15 minutes of us working without him he shows up and tells us that he had to shave, he said his hair was getting way too long. It was literally 2mm's long!!! We started our morning there by watching a music video on how we can all volunteer. "Hairspray" style. You can watch the video by clicking &lt;a href="http://www.kintera.org/htmlcontent.asp?cid=81345"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;. This organization provides thousands of meals for the terminally or critically ill every day. People who suffer with HIV/Aids, cancer, diabetes, etc. The meals are prepared mainly by volunteers in a kitchen that could be featured on TLC. Then more volunteers go city wide to deliver the meals either warm, or frozen. We we're all very impressed with the efficiency of Project Angel Food!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before our lunch break Kevin had to rescue Kent's wallet from the deep dark interior of the van's siding. Many questioned how Kent could possible rip apart the van's siding and drop his wallet into the 4 inch hole. But 30 minutes later and after prying apart the siding from underneath, Kent was once again a high roller.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was great to have a much needed restful morning yesterday before we arrived at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood.The expansive campus is often used to film TV shows, and movies. We were led through an orientation meeting by Matthew, and Lou-Trice. They have a real heart for the people of the city of Los Angeles and we look forward to learning more about the issues people face.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please continue to pray for us and our group! We just finished our first week of our two week mission trip. I think I speak for all of us when I say it was an eye opening experience! The hospitality and appreciation the Mexican people have for everything you do is just something we haven't experienced. The people have a great passion and the Church's are filled with people on fire for God.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The week started with excitement as we chased two mice out of our cabins, and couldn't have ended better as we attended Pastor Marcos' Church Thursday night. Attending the worship service was an honour. Although none of us speak Spanish (except for Mark), the one thing we shared in common was that we're all brothers and sisters in Christ. Singing and dancing with the people was an experience I will never forget. It was by far the highlight of my trip so far.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another highlight was playing soccer with kids, teenagers, and adults from the local area. It's clear to see that soccer is their game, as 5 and 6 year old children bolted by us, volleying the ball over our heads. Although we put up a good fight, in the end it just wasn't enough. I won't lie, a small piece of my heart broke when they scored the final goal, but I think we earned their respect for trying our hardest and coming close.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All in all it was an awesome week! I would love to return to Mexico as a summer staff at Agua Viva next year to see how God has continued to work in Ensenada, and to have more time to polish my soccer skills.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As for today not too much really happened. We drove for many hours, most of which was spent being asked to buy Disney replicas as we waited to cross the border into the United States. We then went surfing in California which is something most of us dreamed of since we heard the Beach Boys sing about how much fun it was. It was also a good chance for to even out our farmer tans after wearing shirts all week. The day finished with us going to Gateway Church where we are spending the night.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Good night Winnipeg! Besides, the power is off at the camp so my laptop is attracting all sorts of bugs that necessitates this being brief.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We were out all day and only arrived back at Agua Viva at approximately 10:45 p.m. local time. We finished our last DVBS ministry Thursday morning at Pastor Armando's church and then headed to La Bufadora for some shopping and witnessing the blow hole first hand. Everyone enjoyed purchasing items from the market people who somehow gave each of us "special" prices just for "you." I even received a "missionary" discount of 40 % for one item I purchased. The youth enjoyed bartering and the whole Mexican shopping experience! One even bought a Nacho Libre style wrestling mask and wore it for about an hour in the van on the drive back. I won't mention who as it is a gift for a family member.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After our time at La Bufadora we headed for some ice cream and then on to Pastor Garcia's house for a burrito supper. This was the house that our group began working on two years ago and it was neat to see the progress made and to meet with Pastor Garcia again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then we were off to the evening church service at the Great King church, which is where Pastor Marcos ministers. Nigel and Elisa did a wonderful job sharing their testimonies and I had had the privilege of sharing a message to this wonderful congregation. The worship was lively and the passion for Christ that our Mexican brothers and sisters exhibit is both humbling and encouraging. I'm not sure ACC is quite ready for dancing and jumping around, but our team sure enjoyed our time! We ended our day by enjoying some food at Carl's Jr. or as we like to say, Carlos Jr. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Later this morning we need to pack up and head for San Diego and surfing for some of our team and the beach for the rest, Please pray for safe travels and that the border crossing will go smooth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Everyone has enjoyed their time in Ensenada and we will miss our Mexican &amp;amp; American amigos! They talked a little about the churches they work with, some of which we are helping this week.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We then went back to Pastor Armando's church for another DVBS, where we talked about loving your neighbor. The children seemed a lot more comfortable with us today, which was really great to see. We also had a slight mix up in our memory verse which made the children laugh at us quite a bit.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After an amazing lunch at a favouritetaco stand and some wonderful Mexican ice cream, we went with Pastor Marcos' church to play a huge 11 on 11 game of soccer with another youth group. It was extremely hot today and everyone was very sweaty and dirty. Christine also prepared some crafts for the people who didn't want to play soccer, I learnt that these people are very crafty. The cards they made were so colourful and precisely assembled to their liking. I was blown away by how much they loved doing the crafts and how great they were.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We were a little late getting back after all this- and honestly running late is now very common for us. But after we ate and cleaned up a bit we had some time to worship with our new Ohio friends and share a bit with them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All in all it was a good day, except that Elisa and I just found... and killed a praying mantis. They were very enthusiastic. It was a hard time trying to  communicate with the people here. Our little melodrama was very well  done; The Story of Noah's Ark. After, Kent's group went back to help  &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva with construction: mostly with roofing. Mark(&lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;ito&lt;/span&gt;), Kim, and Kelly's  group went to do soccer ministry with Pastor Marco's church youth, We only lost by two to the very skillful  youth! Kevin and Mark shared their testimony about God in their life. After the work was done, the &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva staff had a special event,  sort of like a fiesta including a jail. Kent got "arrested" twice. We played games that helped raise money to go to &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva ministries. We  are planning for a great day tomorrow and rest of the trip. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We really enjoy Mexico and helping with the communities here, having different experiences, and doing things we've never done before. A  highlight of the trip was a hike yesterday with the Ohio youth group  here at &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva. The view was amazing and peaceful. The temperature here is one memory  that we will probably never forget. A phrase that is often said by our new friends here on the ranch that originate from Ohio. It's great to be here in Mexico, making friends with people who share the same beliefs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our first day consisted of three things. First everyone in our group went to a small church to work with the kids in a &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;DVBS&lt;/span&gt; program. The pastor Armando and his wife Ava welcomed us with open arms and tears of joy. It was great to interact with the children of Mexico despite the language barrier.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After this, we split up into two teams and one team went to a different church to play soccer and the other group came back to the ranch to help with construction work. Our group went to play soccer and we got destroyed by the kids that were there. It was a lot of running in the heat but I think that a good time was had by all. The pastor Marcos and his wife shared shared with us their plans for the church and the area including their hope to buy an abandoned drug house to turn into a rehab centre and a multi-purpose ministry centre. To buy this place they will need 300000 pesos which is roughly 24,000 dollars American.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By the look of Kevin's blistered hands, the construction work was a lot of work. A lot of prayer, preparation, training, ministry  excursions, and fundraising has taken place over the past year. I am thankful for our wonderful team of youth and leaders,  as well as our every supportive parents and family at &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;ACC&lt;/span&gt;. We truly couldn't have done  this without all of your love and encouragement - ¡Muchas &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;gracias&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During our  first week we will be serving at &lt;a href="http://www.aguaviva.com/"&gt;&lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva Ministries&lt;/a&gt;,  which is  located approximately 20 kms South of &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word"&gt;Ensenada&lt;/span&gt;,  Mexico. There we'll serve by implementing a children's Vacation  Bible School program each morning, various construction projects, soccer  ministry with children and young people, and also have the wonderful  opportunity to run programs in a juvenile prison. We'll also have opportunities to share testimonies in the prison as well as a local  church. Please pray that we'll have an effective ministry and serve the  people of Mexico with great love, respect, and humility. Please also  pray for safe travels and overall safety and health during this first  week of our trip.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our second week of service will bring us to Hollywood, California and  the &lt;a href="http://www.doornetwork.org/index.cfm?load=page&amp;amp;page=177"&gt;Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection (DOOR)&lt;/a&gt;  program.  Here we'll have the opportunity to participate in various  urban ministries including homeless shelters, food banks, soup kitchens,  etc. We'll also have evening sessions that will help us better  understand the issues of urban life and how to "See the face of God in  the city!" Please continue to pray for safety and team unity as we'll be  spending most of our days together in close proximity. Pray that we'll  be open to seeing things from different perspectives and that we'll have  compassion for everyone we'll encounter.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On behalf of our group thanks again for your love, concern, and support! I have heard Sid Koop of Truth Matters Ministries speak and he is definitely a passionate, dynamic, and humorous communicator! He truly has a passion for God and encouraging others to meet God where they're at. On Friday we have another practical way of giving back by raking the yards of people who are elderly or in need of some sort. The best word that describes tonight is AWESOME! It was great to see some familiar faces and also meet some new youth in grade six join our team. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Although the weather put a damper on our Treasure Hunt plans, the interactive glow bowling was a great alternative. Yes I admit my voice is sore after screaming for an hour and a half as we went head to head in our various teams. But man was it worth it!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;The snacks back at the church were delightful! It was great to hear Jer share about how a new school year brings hope for new beginnings and second or more chances in our lives.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So to all of you who made it out thanks for a great time. We will be having an event sometime in late July as a way to reconnect at the mid point of the summer. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;But now is the time to start thinking about the fall and planning for the new school year. Some things are already established such as our Not So Cheap Trek 2010 planning, Winnipeg Harvest service nights, monthly youth services, retreats, etc. However your input is valued and needed in terms of themes for some of these events as well as perhaps new ideas for programs and ministry ideas.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I would love to hear from youth and/or parents for your suggestions and dreams for the year ahead. Please feel free to contact me so we can discuss e*&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;MeRgE&lt;/span&gt; related events and ideas. I am always available to grab a coffee and dream with others about what might be! One of my main roles as Youth Pastor is to assist in the spiritual development of young people and their families. Its not that I haven't wanted to do more with this blog rather, I wondered if people would even care about the random musings of an energetic (some would call it crazy) youth pastor? The truth be told I do have a lot of opinions and views on things but it’s not like I am the sole authority on life and how to live it. However even if I am the only one who will ever read these thoughts, perhaps it will prove therapeutic for me. Like a dear diary or the male equivalent to a to it. A Manary?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anyway, its good to be back after our spring break trip to the OC. We had a great time but it’s always good to get home and back into a routine. It seems like forever since our last youth event and with the Good Friday/Easter Sunday weekend upon us, it won't be until the 17th that we meet again. I miss seeing the youth and leaders; hanging out with them, chatting, teaching, laughing, and just being together as a group. It will be great to reconnect and finish with a bang these last few months before summer break! Yes I love to have fun and celebrate. But normally my idea of enjoyment does not involve a couple of thousand people in Saskatchewan of all places! But Youth Quake at Briercrest College is an exception. Why? Let me count thy ways.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;1. The Journey&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I've always loved travelling with the young people of ACC. The memories we create are second to none. Whether its a trip down the street, Denver, a ski hill, Mexico or Briercrest; there is never a dull moment! The conversations, times of worship, laughter, shenanigans, prayer, and meals together make the journey really special.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;2. The Spirit&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you arrive at YQ the excitement in the air is intense and the staff and students truly are wonderful. There is a spirit at Briercrest that shouts out that this is about more than just a great time. I always anticipate God doing some big things in the lives of the youth and us as leaders. And I can honestly say that God does move and work in many areas of our lives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;3. Youth Worker Training &amp;amp; Support&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I absolutely love how the planners of YQ strive to take care of the needs of youth leaders through their workshops, sessions, and meals. We all could use a little more encouragement and we never leave without being touched or challenged in the ministry God has called us to. The resources available are also a treat as well as the opportunity to interact with experts in the field.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;4. Friends&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Having spent many years in camping and youth ministry you get to know a lot of people. The neat thing about YQ is that you bump into and connect with many of these friends over the weekend. You just never know who you will see and have a chance to catch up with. The really cool thing is seeing people who used to be in my youth group now as youth leaders! Yeah it makes me feel old but it also reminds me of how God calls people, even the ones you might least expect to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;5. The Memories&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Although leaving YQ is sad and the journey home after a weekend with little sleep is long, the memories continue to build! And for me memories is what makes life so enjoyable and what youth ministry should be about. These are times to recall areas of significant growth and change in our lives. These are opportunities to remember the faithfulness of God in our lives. These are gifts as we have a sense of being and belonging within the wider body of Christ.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;So there you have it, my top 5 for YQ! My only question is are you willing to join us for our next great Youth Quake adventure? This event is &lt;strong&gt;for youth in grades 9-12 only&lt;/strong&gt;. This morning we drove up to the LA area where about half of our team went to Six Flags amusement park. The other half checked out the Hollywood walk of fame, went shopping, and cruised along the freeways looking for the hotel late at night. We are tired but looking forward to heading home to our loved ones!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last night we had a great time sharing our highlights and lowlights of the past week and praying together. Most if not all of us expressed sadness about leaving Mexico and the wonderful friendships we developed while there. We are amazed at how fast this week went and thank God for our time together as a team!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We are up at 6:00 a.m. today (8:00 Winnipeg time) and off to the airport for 7:00. We look forward to landing in Minneapolis around 3:00 p.m. and arriving at ACC around midnight! Sorry we haven't posted more pics but the Internet was slow in Mexico and we just haven't had time while here in So Cal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On behalf of our team I once again say muchas gracias! Your prayers and support were and are appreciated. We arrive home tomorrow richer from our experiences and thanking God for his faithfulness! The past few days have been a blur but I wanted to let you all know that we are well in San Diego. We made it through the border without a problem. In fact, the border officer joked around with us for the whole minute he was with us!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unfortunately, I just found out that we need to replace the whole mirror of the van, not just the glass. But at $300 it still is better than paying the $500 deductible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Right now a group is off surfing while another group is shopping at &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;Freeport&lt;/span&gt; Village. And I have the joy of sitting in a car &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;dealership&lt;/span&gt;, but now have to come back bright and early tomorrow morning to get the mirror replaced. But we are safe and happy so what more could I want?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thursday was a busy day with finishing our &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;DVBS&lt;/span&gt; ministry in the morning and finishing our construction/soccer work. We then had a chance to shop at a local market that is famous for having one of the few blowholes in the world known as La &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;Bufadora&lt;/span&gt; - "The Blowhole." After having &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;tamales&lt;/span&gt; for supper we headed out to the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;Paraiso&lt;/span&gt; colony for an evening church service. It was such a joy to worship with our Mexican friends in a small outdoor church. I had the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;privilege&lt;/span&gt; to preach a short message and Kelly, Alyssa, and Taylor shared their testimonies. We all left humbled by the passion and faith of these wonderful people!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This morning we packed up and said our heartfelt goodbye' s to our wonderful hosts: Jeff, &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;Ineke&lt;/span&gt;, Jacqui, and Elizabeth. They encouraged us ("&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"&gt;Animo&lt;/span&gt;") by saying we did tremendous work and then prayed for our group before we departed. We all loved our time at &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva and left knowing that they truly are fulfilling their mandate of: "Reaching Mexico For Christ."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight we head up to &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10"&gt;Solana&lt;/span&gt; Beach to sleep at a local church. Once the van mirror is fixed we'll up to the LA area and an amusement park as well as shopping.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, I'm off to pick up one of the groups. This will be a short entry as our days and nights are so busy that many of us need a long siesta by now.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We've had another amazing day here in hot and humid &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;Ensenada&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;. Oh how I wish you could you see your dear children and friends at work in their various ministries! You would be proud of their determination and love of the people they are &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;privileged&lt;/span&gt; to work with. Today's children's program focused on "God is like a King" and we had a blast singing our many favourite Spanish songs with the kids. Later &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;the&lt;/span&gt; children were thrilled to make crowns, &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;gluing&lt;/span&gt; all sorts of jewels and miscellaneous items on them. Many of them proudly walked home wearing them!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The afternoon consisted of our group finally having the c&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;hance&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; to hone our soccer skills with the children and youth at the neighbourhood known as "The Skunk." While the other group continued to prep for the foundation that will be poured next week at Pastor Garcia's house.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight we had a special dinner near the Seminary building here at &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;Rancho&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Viva. Between courses we were humbled to hear the stories of three students and their work in sharing Christ throughout the many areas of Mexico. Their stories of persecution and faithfulness to God's call greatly impacted each of us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now we are off to prep for tomorrow's &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;DVBS&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; and then hopefully a cold shower before bed. &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"&gt;Tomorrow&lt;/span&gt; is our last day of ministry time which everyone is sad to see end. Please pray for rest, unity as a group, safe travels on Friday and that we can get one of the mirror's for our van replaced without having to pay the $500 deductible.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm sure there is more but I'm too tired to even type this report. The day started with our devotions and then to breakfast where we had the very good beans for the 3rd meal in a row. Next we all hopped in the big vans and were off to our second &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;DVBS&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;Today's&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;DVBS&lt;/span&gt; theme was "God is like a Builder". The kids loved the skit where Justin got to walk around on stage flexing his muscles. The kids then built small houses with toothpicks and &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;marshmallows&lt;/span&gt; as joints. Although many got eaten lots of the houses turned out great.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now the groups got split up and half headed to construction and the other half headed off to play soccer with the kids again. Our group ate in a park in &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;Ensenada&lt;/span&gt; and the other group ate real Mexican tacos at a local shop which they say were fabulous! One of the workers found out they were Christians and asked them to pray for her son who has &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;epilepsy&lt;/span&gt; and they did this without question.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My afternoon was playing soccer with the kids in El &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;Zorillo&lt;/span&gt;, AKA "The Skunk". We had a great turnout. Even though we were trying as hard as we were, we only beat the other team by a couple goals. This was an accomplishment because yesterday we lost to them. And did I mention these kids are an average of 10 years old? They sure know how to play soccer. After a while Taylor shared a great testimony for the kids and then prayed for them. We played more soccer after this and then headed back to &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva for supper.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight we had a great supper of spaghetti and salad, and after supper the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva shop was opened up where they sell hats, clothes, other &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9"&gt;jewelry&lt;/span&gt; and things made by Mexicans being sold here to support their families.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well its time to head off to debrief at the outdoor chapel. The first hour and a half on our prairie roads was pretty much a blur. Between the excitement, the fatigue and the fast food pumped into our bodies, everything just kind of ran together. By the time we got to the border, this trip seemed to be getting a little more plausible and real. We had &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;really&lt;/span&gt; taken this plunge into the unknown and left everything up to God. According to some of the girls, we had a "cute" customs officer... so maybe that's why most of the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;excitement&lt;/span&gt; was coming from them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pulling through the U.S. was a very slow drive. Though we were able to drive faster than we can in Manitoba, the scenery was uncannily similar. Lots of rocks and trees and dirt and water. Finally seeing the "Welcome to Minneapolis" sign was quite the blessing and reason for praise. We made it to the church and the pastor was waiting for us. We all ran in exhausted and "called" our beds... and were taught our first lesson about patience. Instead of the boys who "called" their beds (myself included), the ones that didn't got the comfy couches. We all got to sleep around ten thirty.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Morning came early in the boys room due to my alarm going off an hour early. Three o'clock. As soon as we woke up, we knew with all of our hearts that "today is going to be a long day". We packed up our beds, brushed our teeth and piled back into the vans at four thirty for our seven o'clock flight out of Minnesota.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We got on our flight and the second our heads touched the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;velour&lt;/span&gt;, we were out cold for at least a couple of hours. The three hour flight was smooth and we arrived at LAX at about 9:00 AM local time. Kent and Jen ran off and grabbed our rental vans... and took much longer than they had told us. About an hour and a half later, we finally got into our new homes for the next few hours. So we drove, and drove, and drove and then that glorious sign graced our presence. "Welcome To Mexico"!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The border crossing didn't go as smoothly as we would have liked but, none the less, we got through. There were no security issues or anything, just with the numbers that we had made the tourist Visas go slower than they usual would.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The drive to &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva was kind of sketchy and a little scary. Apparently Winnipeg drivers don't have the craziest drivers in the world! &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva is on a hill in quite a rural area and the drive to it is kind windy and rather high up! And the semis aren't a big fan of staying on their side of the road!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We arrived at &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva and we were all happy to be on solid, non-life threatening ground. Some were so happy they even kissed the ground (Kent). Tired and hungry, we somehow stumbled into the dining hall to sit down to a feast of &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;Quesadillas&lt;/span&gt;, beans and Guacamole. Finally satisfied, we left and began setting up our beds in our cabins. This was promptly interrupted by the direction that we were to go to the fire pit to enjoy a good &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"&gt;ol&lt;/span&gt;' fashion camp fire! &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9"&gt;Yay&lt;/span&gt;! Here we sang some songs, got to know the staff and the others that were staying here and even heard a few rules about the campsite.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When this was over, we quickly prepared and reviewed our &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10"&gt;dvbs&lt;/span&gt; schedule and then bedtime had finally fallen upon us! After having been up for 22 hours, we were all ready to pass out in our bunks... and we did just that. Except, some of us guys were rudely kept up by the dynamic duo, also known as the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11"&gt;Schaefer&lt;/span&gt; boys and &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12"&gt;their&lt;/span&gt; snoring!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This morning was bitter sweet as many of us were still &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13"&gt;extremely&lt;/span&gt; tired from our travels. However after another lovely meal which included beans, of course, we packed the vans and headed out to try our luck on the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14"&gt;curvy&lt;/span&gt; highway and our first ministry site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our time with the beautiful children at the daily vacation Bible school was amazing and inspiring! Today we talked about how God is like a &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15"&gt;Shepherd&lt;/span&gt; and the kids stuck to us like glue. We are thrilled to connect with the children over the next three days. Then our group divided into two and we said Adios for the afternoon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One group had lunch by the ocean and took a quick dip before heading out to play soccer with kids, sharing testimonies, and presenting a Gospel message. The other group had lunch at a park in &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16"&gt;Ensenada&lt;/span&gt; and also had delightful ice cream at a local store. This group then spent the rest of the afternoon preparing the foundation of Pastor Garcia's house, which included a visit with the Pastor and his daughter. Many of us were moved to see this man of God faithfully continuing to serve despite his struggle with Parkinson's disease.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tonight we debriefed on the top of the mountain that houses a giant cross that overlooks &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17"&gt;Agua&lt;/span&gt; Viva and the beautiful mountain ranges. We all shared our highlights of the day and spent time in thankful prayer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We hope you enjoyed this lengthy report. We will try to post some photos in the next few hours! Counting!</title><content type='html'>Greetings family and friends of &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;ACC&lt;/span&gt; Sr. High!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The months of planning, fundraising, ministry experiences, meetings, training sessions, and fun, is almost done. I can hardly believe how far our team has come since the first parent meeting on August 27 of last year! Please know that the young people have done a tremendous job preparing for this mission trip, and I am so proud of each one of them!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'll try to keep you updated as much as possible throughout our adventures, July 12-20. For now, I would ask that you pray for us as we have one final meeting on Sunday, July 6, and for all the last minute details over the next week. Please also pray for &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;unity&lt;/span&gt;, wisdom, safety, and a real passion for the people and ministry we'll be partaking in &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;Ensenada&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I invite you to join us on Saturday, July 12 at 8:45 a.m., to help send us off and pray for us before our departure.
